Adrar Plateau is a vast rocky desert plateau located in the central Sahara region of Mauritania. It covers an area of approximately 120,000 square kilometers and is known for its dramatic landscapes, deep canyons, and towering sand dunes. The plateau is home to a number of unique plant and animal species, including the desert rose, addax antelope, and African wild dog. The local nomadic population, known as the Moors, have adapted to the harsh desert conditions and survive by herding camels, goats, and sheep. The Adrar Plateau is also home to several ancient towns and trading centers, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Chinguetti, known for its well-preserved medieval architecture and ancient libraries.
